COURSE FACTS / CHECKED 28 SEPTEMBER 2026
| Course fact | What it means for your choice |
|---|---|
| Full qualification | Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery; an undergraduate medical degree. |
| Duration in the NMC curriculum | 4½ academic years, followed by one year of compulsory rotating medical internship. Plan academic and internship living costs separately. |
| Learning progression | Foundational medical sciences lead into disease mechanisms, clinical examination, patient care and supervised clinical postings. The curriculum also includes communication, ethics and skills development. |
| Admission route | NEET-UG qualification followed by the relevant MCC or state counselling process. Qualifying the examination does not allot a college. |
| After the degree | Clinical practice requires the applicable internship and registration requirements. MD/MS is a separate postgraduate admission route; see our MD/MS guide. |
The academic duration and competency-based training structure are described in NMC’s undergraduate curriculum compilation. Internship is a training stage, not an extra admission category. A college-specific guide must separately establish its teaching hospital, internship arrangements and any stipend or bond.
01 / ELIGIBILITY
Qualification is required.
By 31 December 2026.
Use your applicable qualification code.
For NEET-UG 2026, candidates must turn 17 by 31 December 2026; the bulletin states no upper age limit. The qualifying-examination routes cover Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Biotechnology and English, with conditions for practicals, additional subjects and equivalent qualifications. Match your records to the applicable qualification code rather than relying on a general social-media checklist. See Chapter 6 of the NTA information bulletin.
Before building a shortlist, write down your board, subjects, results, date of birth and any category or domicile claim. Mark anything that needs clarification. If your education includes additional subjects, a foreign board or an unusual examination route, obtain a clear answer from the relevant authority before paying application charges.
Treat eligibility as a document-backed check. A verbal assurance cannot resolve a mismatch between the details entered in an application and the certificates you eventually present.
02 / COUNSELLING
15% All India Quota, deemed universities and specified central-institution routes.
Open the official MCC portal ↗Seats under the state authority’s notified jurisdiction and eligibility rules.
Prepare your evidence ↓MCC handles the 15% All India Quota and specified central-institution routes; its deemed-university counselling covers 100% of seats. State authorities manage seats within their notified jurisdiction. The correct route depends on the institution and seat category, not simply whether the college is called private. Consult the NTA admission-procedure chapter and MCC 2026 bulletin.
Build a route map before registration. For every college, record the exact campus, authority, seat category, eligibility evidence and official portal. Keep separate task lists when pursuing more than one counselling route. This makes it easier to spot a missing application instead of assuming one registration covers every preference.
For state counselling, read the state’s current prospectus before making assumptions about residence, schooling or category eligibility. Being willing to study in a state and being eligible for a particular seat category are different questions.
03 / YOUR ACTION PLAN
Counselling involves registration, required payments, choice submission, allotment and the applicable reporting or upgrade steps. Follow the current round’s instructions, including document-upload requirements and freeze/float rules where applicable. A saved draft or payment receipt alone is not proof that every step is complete. Use the current MCC instructions for that route.
Maintain a small calendar with the task, responsible person and evidence of completion. Families can divide research and travel arrangements, while the applicant retains control of account access and final choices. Read a new notice fully before changing an existing plan.
04 / UNDERSTANDING YOUR RESULT
A qualifying result establishes eligibility for consideration; a closing rank describes the last allotted rank for a specific seat combination. Neither should be read as a promise of admission. Compare the same college, quota, category, round and year before using historical results in your planning.
Make a comparison sheet with one row per option. Add the published result you are using, its source and the context it belongs to. If an advertised cutoff omits its category or round, leave the comparison unresolved rather than treating it as reliable.
Then ask a practical question: would you accept this college at its actual cost if allotted? An option that looks reachable but is unaffordable or unsuitable should not enter your preferences merely to make the list longer. Use our college shortlisting checklist to organise the decision.
05 / BUDGET PLANNING
There is no useful single fee figure for every college and seat category. Work from the institution’s current written fee schedule and the applicable fee order, where relevant. Separate confirmed charges from estimates instead of combining them into a precise-looking total.
Ask whether a quoted amount is annual, semester-based or for the complete programme. Check which charges may change and who receives each payment. Keep advisory-service charges separate from college and counselling payments so the family understands the purpose of every transaction.
Our full-cost comparison guide helps you organise these questions without inventing a fee estimate for an unnamed institution.
06 / YOUR COLLEGE SHORTLIST
A strong shortlist connects your priorities with evidence about the learning environment. Ask the institution how classroom teaching, skills practice and supervised clinical exposure are organised. Find out where students train and whom they can approach when academic or practical difficulties arise.
For a campus visit, prepare a short question list instead of relying on a promotional tour. Ask about access to teaching staff, library hours, accommodation, travel between facilities and student support. Speak to more than one current student where possible; an individual experience is useful context, not a guarantee of your own experience.
Record the answer, who provided it and what still needs checking. Two colleges with similar headline fees may lead to different living arrangements or family travel costs. Use those differences openly in the comparison rather than allowing a familiar brand name to settle every question.
07 / DOCUMENTS
MCC’s reporting checklist includes the allotment letter, NEET admit card/result, school certificates and marksheet, identification and photographs, with additional category or status evidence where applicable. Originals are required at the applicable reporting stage. Check Question 32 and subsequent instructions in the MCC bulletin; the institution may require additional records.
Organise a physical folder and a clearly labelled digital copy. Check names, dates and document validity early. If a discrepancy exists, ask the receiving authority what evidence it accepts; do not assume an informal explanation will be sufficient.
Keep a list showing what is ready, what must be obtained and which authority specifies it. The admission document guide provides a preparation method, while the official checklist remains the final reference.
08 / MANAGEMENT & NRI
Management or NRI terminology does not create an exemption from NEET-UG or the applicable admission process. NRI eligibility and supporting evidence must match the relevant rules. Start with the NTA bulletin and the authority responsible for the seat.
Before any commitment, ask three questions: who issues the allotment, which official record identifies the seat, and what written terms govern the payment? Keep a college fee, a counselling deposit and an advisor’s charge distinct. Never treat an informal “seat blocked” message as equivalent to an official allotment.

09 / VERIFY YOUR OPTIONS
Start with the NMC list of colleges teaching MBBS. Cross-check the exact name, campus and relevant course information against the institution’s website and the current counselling seat matrix. Similar names or abbreviations can refer to different institutions.
Build your research list from identifiable official entries, then apply the same academic, cost and practical questions to every option. Save the source and date alongside each college so you can recheck it when choices open.
10 / CAMPUS MANTRA
Campus Mantra provides admission guidance through its Pune and Delhi offices, with Sudip Dey as Founder & Lead Counsellor. Bring your academic profile, available entrance result, preferred study locations and budget questions so the discussion starts with your actual situation.
Discuss the scope of support and any applicable charges before proceeding. Guidance can help organise your research and decisions; eligibility verification, selection and allotment remain with the relevant authorities and institutions. Contact the counselling team or meet the team.
COMMON QUESTIONS
No. The NTA bulletin states that undergraduate medical admissions use NEET-UG. A private-college or management-category enquiry does not bypass that requirement.
No. Qualification and allotment are different. Your eligible options, rank, category, choices and available seats must be considered through the relevant process.
Use it as clearly labelled historical context. Obtain the current fee documents and compare the same category, quota and round before making a decision.
Share your preferred study locations with Campus Mantra. The office location does not decide which counselling rules apply to a college or seat.
